ST GERARD’S CHOIR: INFORMATION ON BACKGROUND, VISION & MISSION, AND STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (SOP)
Background
- St Gerard’s Choir is named after St Gerard Majella, who is the patron saint for mothers and babies and venerated as Friend of the Poor and Saint of the Worker.
- St Gerard’s feast day falls on October 16.
- Our vision is to proclaim the glory of God in song with participation of the congregation and the celebrant so that the Celebration of the Eucharist will be a special experience for all.
- Our mission for the people is for them to feel a special fellowship with each other during the Celebration of the Eucharist, and understand more fully the beauty and significance of the Celebration so that they take with them the love of Jesus and spread the Good News wherever they go.
SOP: Membership
- Membership is open to anyone who is interested joining the Choir.
Audition
- Applicants will be auditioned after TWO weeks (2 Sundays) with the Choir, and approval to remain as a member will be given by the Management Committee.
- Audition is necessary for assessing singing skills and voice classification.
- The Management Committee reserves the right not to allow an applicant from joining the Choir.
Commitment
- Members are obligated to sing at the 5.30pm Celebration of the Eucharist and any other Celebrations as required.

- For Sunday Celebrations, members are to report punctually at 3.00pm or 3.30pm at the loft for rehearsal or any other time or for items (e.g., dress code for special occasions like Annual Procession) as required by the conductor-in-charge. The rehearsal is followed by the Celebration of the Eucharist which commences at 5.30pm. Members are expected to stay for any short debriefing after the Celebration which ends at around 6.45pm.
- Members are to proceed quietly to the loft for the rehearsal so as not to disrupt the faithful in their prayers in the Church. Members are to avoid being late, and should they come in late, are to proceed quickly and quietly to their places.
- Members must inform the conductor-on-duty if they wish to leave the loft.
Absence
- Members must inform their section leaders and provide a valid reason if they are unable to sing at the Celebration or stay for rehearsals. Members requiring leave of absence for an extended period are required to put their request in writing to their section leaders for the approval of the Choir’s Management Committee.
- Members who are absent without permission for FOUR consecutive Sundays will be deemed to have left the Choir. The section leader will send a letter to the member concerned and request them to respond or be removed from the register of membership.
